Open-source software

3D Fosil is built on open-source software. This page lists the main components and, for the slicing engine, where to get the exact source code we run.

CuraEngine slicing engine

Slicing is done by CuraEngine by UltiMaker, licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0. It runs on our slicing server and, compiled to WebAssembly, in your browser.

Both builds use upstream commit f79d7d4dea126c6a8b7237384cd49e6676fdca93 from https://github.com/Ultimaker/CuraEngine, without changes to the engine's code.

For the browser build, two compiler options are changed: the engine may run in a Web Worker (ENVIRONMENT=web, worker, node) and may use up to 4 GB of memory (MAXIMUM_MEMORY=4GB). The server build disables the optional socket front end (Arcus) and plugins.

The corresponding source and the build instructions are available from the repository above, and on request from info@3dfosil.com.
